TRAVEL JOURNALS

In 2008, before leaving for Italy, we searched for a way to share with friends and family our experiences. We looked at the numerous Websites that offer travellers the opportunity to post journals, blogs and pictures. They were all good, but we always found in each of them something that we did not like, whether it was too much advertising, too “crowded” with informations, difficult to navigate, etc. etc. The choice ultimately boils down to a personal preference. After a long and tiring search, we stumbled on one site that we really liked “Fuzzy Travel”. We thought it was “clean”, simple, not too much commercialized, and easy to navigate.

Nancy wrote most of the journals (see the
About us section) with minor edits from Luigi. It was just intended for family and friends, but as we discovered, it turned out to be very popular with many visitors to Italy. So, we are making the 2008 journal more accessible here. A link on the title of the individual posting will take you to Nancy's own blog PagesFromItaly where you can read the entire posting and explore the site further (the 2009 travel journal!!).

SOME OF THE POSTINGS FROM OUR 2008 TRAVEL JOURNAL
During our travel, we tried to keep our journal updated with text and pictures as much as possible. Here was our itinerary:
  • 3 days in Florence
  • 5 days driving around Tuscany in a rental car drinking wine, eating lots of cheese, etc.
  • 3 days in Cinqueterre
  • 7 days in Rome
  • 7 days on the Island of Ischia which will be our base for the exploration of the Amalfi coast”
It is finally here! After months of dreaming about walking through the streets of Rome (eating gelato of course)....we will finally be there in less than 24 hours! Luigi has spent the last several months planning this trip to show me Italy...since this is my first trip to Europe, I have no idea what to expect. I only know that the next four weeks will be the trip of a lifetime for me....I hope that we can share some of our experiences through this journal. See you in Italy!

Buongiorno Firenze! ..... Note to self - make sure medical insurance is covered before stepping into an Italian taxi ! We sped through the NARROW Florence streets while I prayed that I would live to see our Bed and Breakfast! ....

Up close and personal with the real David... ....on Sunday morning, although we woke up bright and early at two am (as mentioned in the previous journal entry), we fell back to sleep until the alarm rang. We had to rush to make it to the Accademia where Luigi had made a reservation for a NO line up entry at 8:45.............

POGGIO ASCIUTTO! Greve in Chianti. May 2,2008. Here we are....staying in the Chianti region, near Greve in a Agritourismo called Poggio Asciutto ... with Anne and Erik. It is run by a very interesting couple, Eva originally from Sweden and Massimo, from the Island of Elba. We are writing this in the cantina (wine cellar) on Massimo's laptop!...........

Under the tuscan sun! May 3, 2008. Buongiorno from under the molto caldo tuscan sun! Luigi and I decided to get some relief from the tuscan sun and work on another update...since Massino's laptop is in the cool cantina. Yesterday was a busy day...Luigi says that the previous night he could feel Leonardo Da Vinci's soul wanting to make another famous painting........

More sun from Monterosso! Cinqueterre. May 6, 2008. It is molto caldo! We are enjoying another hot, sunny day here in Cinqueterre. This morning, after attempting to write a journal entry on yet another computer from the dark ages....we caught the train to Monterosso...the largest of the five towns in the Cinqueterre. There are beautiful beaches here and more tourists than you can shake a gelato cone at! ..........

Rome! May 9, 2008. Here we are....finally in Rome! We have had two busy days soaking in the history and culture of this 2700 year old city. (At this point I would LOVE to also soak my tired feet!).....................

Of millenia old statues and "modern" open markets. Rome May 11, 2008 Yesterday, after we uploaded the previous batch of pictures, we went for a walk towards Piazza Venezia and the Roman Forum. However, since Rome has thousands of little fashion stores all over, our walk was frequently interrupted by shopping forrays..........

Finding Paradise...... May 15,2008. Here we are in Paradise...the Island of Ischia, in the Gulf of Naples. We arrived yesterday afternoon after an hour and twenty minutes train ride (Eurostar) and a half hour fast ferry from Naples to Ischia....then the mini taxi to our hotel..........
