WELCOME TO THE "Memories of Italy" WEBSITE!

Your travel guide to online resources for Italy

An unique Italian-canadian perspective

The MEMORIES OF ITALY website is dedicated to those who love Italy, have been there or plan to visit it.

The Internet can be a great source of information. But it can also be overwhelming, misleading and a source of confusion. Look at the
MEMORIES OF ITALY Website as a window to sort out the wide, sometimes conflicting range of suggestions and advices.
I have a very unique perspective. Born in Rome where I lived for 26 years, I have been a professional in Canada for more than 30 years. I still maintain my strong italian heritage. My periodic travels to Italy, and helping friends and acquaintances, has prompted me to develop this website. I was frankly tired of the erroneous information and the various self-serving, well designed commercial sites that can be found by simply googling "travel to Italy."

There are several english speaking "ex-pats" that have chosen to live in Italy and, for a fee (which may take various forms), provide useful information. However, I frequently found they make "things" way more complicated than they are as if they were trying to re-create habits/culture/behaviour of their own home country. I believe visiting Italy is very simple and can also be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience if you follow some basic rules (see our
Tips and suggestions). Hence this site.

The
Memories of Italy website is rich of information, suggestions and tips, all free for you to use. It will be very useful for first timers to Italy.

We will talk about
driving in Italy, visiting Rome, visiting Florence and other major cities, explore the Chianti region as well as other topics such as eating in Italy, italian meals, taking the train in Italy, and such. Our HD Videos on Italy (Agritourism Poggio Asciutto, Horseback riding in Tuscany, The Cat Sanctuary in Rome, Orvieto) may provide you with some ideas on what to explore. If you need more detailed and customized help, I welcome your email. I can provide you with a detailed tour to greatly enhance your experience and make the most of you time and resources.

Don’t hesitate to ask for advice and comment on our blog or use our contact form. We welcome your questions and any suggestion/experience you would like to share.

  • Many tourists now consider renting apartments in Rome. So, I have added a page with some tip and suggestions on that.

  • Considering how many tourists use the Italian train service, I have expanded information about finding departure/arrivals schedule, buying train tickets, etc.

  • We have added some more tips and suggestions.

  • Added more info about driving in Italy and traffic regulations (including the ZTLs - Areas where only residents can drive)
